A device called a UPS (Universal Power Supply) can save you a lot of money. Basically it is a large battery that is constantly recharged by your conventional power supply. This allows the voltage to be regulated so that it is always constant and you never have too much current or too little.
If you have a LCD TV, computer, router, or any other electronic device you really need to get it for living here on the island. Although the electrics are getting better year by year we still have the odd brown out, power surge and lightning strikes that can fry and destroy your electronics in a moment! Not to mention the odd really bad wiring job in some places.
The UPS is a small but heavy box that can save your equipment. They usually have a 5-1 hour backup of charge that lets you shut down your equipment and they eliminate electrical surges and outages.
So it comes down to this, spend a few Baht and put this in or get a whole bunch of new electronic equipment pretty well every year.
