From Cambodia: Many tour companies will book you straight from your rooms in Siahnoukville or Phenom Phen right to the island. Alternatively you can grab a bus to the border and grab a
mini-bus. From the border to the ferries should not take more than two hours.
From Pattaya: The best and fastest way is to book a mini-bus at one of the numerous travel agents. Be sure to specify if you are going to the ferry or right onto the island and to be dropped at
your hotel. If you are being dropped at your hotel be sure to mark that on your ticket. Sometimes they seem to forget and then you have to buy the ferry ticket yourself – bad business but it does
happen.
Another way is to grab one of the passenger buses that go back and forth or hire a cab. Hiring a cab is quite expensive but it the lap of luxury as you go along.
From Bangkok: There are many way to get here from there! If you want to head down right after the airport there is local bus at the airport-bus station that leaves twice a day, a local bus from Ekami bus station and numerous local buses that do a milk run along the way.
Again you can get a mini-bus or regular tourist bus for the island from any travel agent.
You also have the option of booking a regional flight to Trat and then a quick taxi ride to the ferry from there. Check out Bangkok Airways for up to date information.
You can put up as many time tables as you want and it looks great on the web, but it does not work here in Thailand. Buses leave late, arrive early and nothing is ever done with Swiss
precision. Make sure you arrive on time and enjoy the ride. Be relaxed and it will all work out. Remember just one thing:
**BE SURE TO GET TO THE FERRY BEFORE 7:00 PM**
it closes then.
Protocol for the ferry: don’t worry too much about lugging your heavy bags up the stairs, just lock and leave them at the foot of the stairs, it is quite safe and there is nowhere for a thief to run to
anyways! The current cost is 120 baht per person return trip, or 100 baht one way (be sure to get a round trip when you arrive.)
Cars: 200 baht return trip or 120 baht one way. Enjoy the view or just kick back and have a drink from the vendors on board. We recommend taking a bathroom break before coming on some of the ferries, trust us on this one!
After you get off the ferry just walk straight up the dock area, and through the gate. Cross the road and you will see many taxis that are ready to take you to different destinations across the island. Prices will vary on time of year, the attitude of the driver and time of day. Prices are posted but just ignore that. Also be sure to hang on when the taxi starts heading uphill. We have seen several people hanging off the taxi at the back and it is totally unsafe
