We were flagged down while driving home by a man who has lived here on Koh Chang for quite a while and asked to post this. It seems that he had come across some bird nets in his neighborhood and reported them to the local police that took quick measures to remove them. These nets also became a death-trap for the local bats at night. Let’s not forget that bats are an essential part of the ecosystem and help to control the insect population and even help to pollinate plants!
The man, who would like to remain anonymous, came across this poor little guy totally wrapped up in the bird net and after a long while of cutting and tearing was able to free him. It is great to see such an effort and kudos to getting him free!
The picture quality is pretty low but it was taken with a phone cam, but you can still see the damage done and the entrapment of the poor bat. We hope more people can see the damage this can do and are able to help. If you see any illegal traps please call the police as soon as possible!
