Pick your favorite restaurant or cafe and just head out for a fun night of food and good times!
Yes, the hotels all have restaurants but we thought you might like to see something a little different on the island… Some restaurants are top-notch and a few are lower end – but cool. The one thing they make an impression… Just because it is not in the guide though does not mean it is not good! We cannot be everywhere, but we try… use this as your base to explore Koh Chang and get some great memories – and dinners!
The restaurants in White Sands are quite varied from street noodles and chicken to some of the best upper class dining. Pretty well whatever you are looking can be found here. As always we start from the north of the island and work our way down to the south. Some really good restaurants to be had here and we are still adding to the list as time goes on… we can only eat out so often!
Rock Sand Resort: You will have to walk up the beach from KC Resort to get here but it is well worth it. Even if you are not going to eat at least take in the spectacular view! Varied menu including Western steaks, pizza and Thai. Always worth the walk to get something we figure, you will take pictures here.
Jinda Resort: Family run resort and restaurant that actually grow their own mushrooms and fresh vegetables. Great Thai food from old family recipes, so it is very Thai and very much from the island. The family here are very friendly and that just makes the food taste all that much better!
Oodies Place: For a good night take in the relaxed atmosphere and live music most nights. Good selections of Italian, Western pizzas (many recommend them!) and Thai food. Done up with a wonderful atmosphere we recommend you get the food and stay for the show. Expect to stay for a while and then return as soon as possible. If you have not heard of Oodies they are bit of a legend on Koh Chang for a good time!
Buffalo Bill Steak House: Western cowboy themed steakhouse with a large menu of steaks and western food. Quite fun and different atmosphere from many places on the island. Nothing like cowboy outfits on Thai people which makes the atmosphere very playful. Excellent western decor, if you want to try some good steaks and side dishes (go for the garlic mashed potatoes) this is a great place.
15 Palms: Smaller lounge and restaurant but right on the seaside. Great English breakfasts and BBQs at night. The restaurant is very cozy with a great laid back feeling. The owners are English and so expect a good filling English breakfast and good portions of food. Another good place to watch the sun go down and hang out for a few hours.
Chester’s Grill: Thailand’s alternative to KFC. need something fast or craving fast food – they have it. Actually good coffee and deserts!
Beach Tango: Seaside with excellent views and comfortable. Good selection of Western and Thai food. We have spent hours here relaxing under the shade of their tree and with Wi-Fi and great menu with specialty coffee from Italy – not a bad way to spend some time. Bonus – massage tables are just a meter away! Watch the sunset here if you can!
Sea Bar: Right on the beach with a great menu and a view that remains as one of the best on the island…
La Dolce Vita: In Walking Street, solid Italian food with pizzas and lasagne that are very popular, very highly rated.
Nong Bua: Great Thai food and extensive Western also. Super fast, super good! They have a huge menu of Thai and Western food leaning towards German dishes. Either one is always good and very well done. The seating is a bit crowded, but the quality of the meals more than makes up for that.
Baja Cantina: Finding Mexican food that is decent is Thailand is not easy, but Baja does a good job. A good choice is the combo plates and some nachos on the side. Thai beer goes really well with Mexican food, we find Singha is best (but up to you!). Smaller but very well run, we like the place. Not tacky like so many Mexican places but instead they have decorated the place and provide good service. How did they ever get a license plate from Saskatchewan over here in Thailand??!!
Tamnak Chang: An open air restaurant, excellent Thai food with a good selection of western if you really want that, but stick with the Thai food here – it is great. The open area is wonderful for breezes and the seating is very good. Really good portions and very popular!
Emperor of India: In the mood for Indian food? Look no further then this family run restaurant. Curries and other specialties from India make for a great night out, and to be honest in a hot climate Indian food is a nice change.
Paul’s Restaurant: German/European and Thai. Looking for something with cheese and meat? Want a good sea view? This is the place. Paul has made a reputation over the years as a great chef, excellent service and of course… wonderful food. The view is great… did we mention that already?
Paddy’s Palms: Irish pub/ restaurant with a great selection of Western food, famous for their Sunday Roast. Wonderfully air-conditioned and non-smoking with very good western dishes it is a great place to take in some home-food back from the old country. They have Guinness!
Home Bar: Not really a bar-bar but a very friendly American-Thai run restaurant and lounge, great pizzas and a very nice decor!
Street Food: Don’t walk these stalls without taking a look. Usually situated by the central 7-11 they serve some great dishes and desserts!

Pearl Beach is a very small area, but the restaurants listed are good… very good.
Hungry Elephant: We like Hungry Elephant for the fact they have some great steaks and dishes served just right. Great portions, lots of free side dishes like salad and potatoes. Huge selection of different steaks and an excellent meal if you are hungry for some good western cooking – just go here!
Sanae Restaurant: Run by a Thai and English couple Sanae serves great Thai and Western food.

Chai Chet gets a bad rap as the bar area, but south of that is VJ and Coconut Plaza, slightly hard to find but often well worth it. The owners know they are not on the main tourist route and so a lot extra to get and keep customers coming back!
Moons: Formerly Strawberry Moons, but under new management, does up a great selection of Thai and a bit of western. In VJ Plaza.
M&M: Italian run and Italian dishes, good selection of Italian and Thai, the lasagna is worth going for! Very nice decor and laid back. In VJ Plaza
Marco & Joe: Italian again… Good reviews and menu.
Yes Restaurant: Large menu with western and Thai. In VJ Plaza.
Abella Restaurant: Italian and Thais dishes, very nice attention to details and good service. At Coconut Plaza.

From the river side places to the waterfall, from the beach restaurants to the main road areas, Klong Prao has a lot to offer as far as selection and variety is concerned, lots of restaurants, cafes and lounges to keep you happy for quite a while!
Iyara Seafood: Really nice Thai dishes that not only have a great view of the river but also let you eat while boating down the river.
Moleys Resort: A new river side development Moley takes making the food quite seriously, Thai and western. The deck overlooking the river is worth the trip.
Phu Talay: At the end of the road, excellent view and really nice decor and ambiance. Boat suppers can also be arranged. Very nice decor and the ability to take in the firefly show up the river make this a good stop. The decor is really nice and from wood, the view is stunning and we have always had good service. Go for the boat supper…
One Million Som Tams: About 200m before the waterfall. Rough, rustic and you can eat your meal floating in the river (from an inner tube). We said it is rustic and rough but the people are very kind and this place is unique.
Jae Eiw Seafood: Just before the river and very highly recommended, a favorite of the Bangkok weekender crowd and from what rumor has it – even royalty has eaten here.
Orchid Restaurant: Really beautiful garden setting with excellent Thai and western dishes. They have gone to a lot of trouble to make this a garden area and the small touches they have shows.
Crust Bakery: Not only baked goods but really nice sandwiches and coffee. Fresh bread, good sliced meats and generous portions!
Maracana Brazilian BBQ: If you want some incredibly good meat dishes, this is a good choice. The history and making of a Brazilian BBQ is fascinating, the owners are willing to tell you all about it. If you are hungry for a variety of meats this is a good choice. The owners are Brazilian-Japanese and take real pride in offering this type of BBQ (they even brought the goods from Brazil!).
Chumnan Restaurant: Basic plastic chairs and very Thai, you will be back for the excellent food they do make. It’s that good. To be honest it looks like many places but the family is great and the food is better! Although it looks like a lot of other very basic Thai places the food is superb…
Nids Kitchen: Really great eclectic decor and very cool. All kinds of memorabilia and kitsch on the walls make this just a place to sit and look for a while.
Katis Culinary: One of the top restaurants on the island for Thai food. Very highly rated and everything is made fresh.
Tonsai: Thai and Chinese dishes.
Pot & Kettle: More of a lounge but every now and then the owner throws on some great supper dishes, but breakfast always.
Big Elk Steak House: Western Steak house.
Vietnamese Hut: Small, but does up some great Vietnamese dishes. Sometimes its great just to have spring rolls and an iced coffee and watch the world roll by.
M&D Restaurant: Very nice wood decor with a hilarious mural. Huge menu of Thai and western with pizza! The selection of food is encyclopedic, good service, sometimes live music. Very relaxed and welcoming service.
Cheap Thrills: Excellent French/Italian foods with homemade bread (its wonderful). Live music most nights also. We rate this as a very original and great place.
Mandalay Restaurant: Both Mandalay and Family (below) are located beside each other on Klong Prao beach. The view is amazing and these two places are considered the “postcard” view of a Koh Chang sunset.
Family Restaurant: Beautiful views of the sunset, great Thai food.
Burger Station: Sometimes you want a burger, this is a good choice. Homemade bread, they make the patties themselves and also the sauces, a nice break from the usual store-bought re-heated burgers a few places on the island serve.

Bang Bao is not the center for massive restaurants, and huge crowds, and the owners know that to attract people here they had best be good or offer something different. At that there are a few places that are well worth making your way down and checking out.
Tantra Restaurant: Very highly rated, on the sea and amazing decor. One of the highest rated restaurants. They have gone to great lengths to make this a perfect spot. Slightly upscale, but relaxed. They also have a pickup and drop off service.
