The Sunbirds are a very small bird found in many areas on Koh Chang. The plumage ranges from a metal blue to black. They love mangroves but will easily nest in human areas. Although they can hover like a hummingbird and drink nectoar they tend to perch more so when doing that than other birds.
The Sunbirds have adapted readily to urban areas and are more than happy to nest in human areas. Interestingly enough when their eggs are laid they will abandon the nest for about a week and then return. This is thought to make the eggs less likely to preyed upon by snakes and cuckoos as with them not there – there is little chance anything can see the nst. The chicks, when hatched only take about three weeks to learn to fly and then leave..
