You can find a lot of small bars and lounges on Koh Chang, and we like to highlight the odd one when they are good, and Pot & Kettle ranks again as a favorite with our readers. The simple truth really of what makes or breaks a bar is not the decor, the prices or the menu; but actually it is the people who run the bar. We have seen a lot of places that had great prices, great decor etc.. and they are on the closed list as the owner was never that nice. You might go once, but not again… word travels fast on the island, and jerks have no place to hide…
That is where our review of Pot & Kettle comes in; the owner is great and makes people feel welcome…
Kim is one of the few western women who has made Koh Chang her home and with a lot of friends on the island and a lot of honest opinions, she is a great source of information, a bit of good gossip and a lot of caring. She is the den-mother for a lot of the ex-pats on the island, whether they know that or not… but they are there often with mugs of hot tea telling another story of some adventure (good and bad) on the island…
The decor is definitely a laid back bohemian place, with books on one wall, and interesting objects de Art hanging everywhere else and the small shaded entry makes it quite inviting. Definitely small, but very charming is the phrase we would use.
Pot & Kettle is frequented by a lot of locals so if you want to get the inside scoop on what is happening, where to go and what to do… this is the place. Breakfasts are on, the tea and coffee are hot, the prices are very reasonable and if you stay for a bit, you will find a genuine friend here on the island. God knows there is always some new traveler who gets a hug and a map to the island… Kim is just kind of like that…
